Find

Your

Zen

There are so many lifestyle retreats out and about on the market now. If you’re looking for some zen and the chance to relax, you’re honestly spoilt for choice. But which lifestyle retreats are really making all the difference for the minds, bodies and souls of those who attend?

I’m talking about for months and years after they visit, too. Sure, it’s well and good to feel great while you’re hiking the mountains, sitting by the water and eating nutritious meals, but how can you continue to feel great when reality (inevitably) snaps you right back into place?

Throughout my life, I have gone on many lifestyle retreats, some great, and some not so great. Paired with my aptitude for great health and well-being, I know a thing or two about what it takes to replenish, reset and find peace within yourself. With that in mind, I am on a journey to visit some of the thousands of lifestyle retreats now available to the world, acting as your ambassador, so you only choose the best of the best to heal your mind and feel more grounded.

What makes a great lifestyle retreat?

It all starts with what the retreat promises to give you. Is it 3 days of relaxation or a lifetime of mindfulness coping strategies that allow you to blossom into a grounded, more realised version of yourself? Sure, you want to feel relaxed and refreshed. You want to feel pampered and a little bit spoilt. But what I am looking for are lifestyle retreats that give you practical answers to those challenges in your life, so you can navigate every moment with clarity, focus and intention.

What does this mean? Well, the key elements I look for in lifestyle retreats include:

Teaching people how to meditate and how to heal - whether it be through sound, silence or art

01

Showing people that they don’t need to spend thousands every few months to escape reality, that they can find ‘escape’ in everyday

02

Providing a one-on-one or personalised experience - This usually coincides with small group sizes

03

Teaching mindfulness practices, including mindful eating, mindful breathing and mindful decision-making

04

Providing practices to help you feel grounded, well past the end of the retreat

05

Giving you the steps you need to find yourself in every moment, not just when you’re at a beach-side resort

I also find that the people on the retreat with you can make all the difference to how you feel at the end of your journey. So, it’s important to see who these retreats are marketing themselves to. For example, inexpensive retreats (not always) may bring in crowds who aren’t as open to change, and who may make the experience harder to truly delve into. Keeping all of these aspects in mind can help ensure you embark on a retreat that changes your life.
